Enhancing Innovation and Sustainability
The new 65,000-square-foot headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was designed to accelerate innovation and model SunOpta’s sustainability heritage. Features include a pilot plant and a research and development center eight times the size of its previous location, supporting the company's goal to double its plant-based business by 2025.
Sustainable design elements encompass nearly 13,000 square feet of renewable bamboo flooring, 920 LED light fixtures, and a large solar array generating over 30% of the building's electricity needs.
Empowering Collaboration Through Thoughtful Design
Spye's end-to-end AV consulting and design services culminated in a future-ready environment that embodies SunOpta's innovative ethos and supports their collaborative culture. The integration of advanced AV solutions ensures that technology enhances, rather than hinders, the collaborative process.
Advancing Sustainability with Solar Array
In alignment with SunOpta's commitment to sustainability, Spye's subsidiary Greenway Solar designed and installed a rooftop solar array at the Eden Prairie headquarters. This installation comprises 742 solar panels covering 36,000 square feet, capable of producing up to 447,667 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually. This renewable energy source is estimated to supply nearly two-thirds of the facility's annual energy needs, significantly reducing its carbon footprint by approximately 317 metric tons of CO₂ each year.

The solar installation not only underscores SunOpta's dedication to environmental stewardship but also contributes to long-term operational cost savings. By integrating renewable energy solutions into the headquarters' design, Greenway Solar helped SunOpta take a substantial step toward its goal of reducing electricity usage by 40% and natural gas consumption by 30% across its facilities.
This comprehensive approach to AV integration and sustainable design not only enhances SunOpta's operational efficiency but also reinforces its dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility.
